About Mount Meru:

Set in the heart of lush Arusha National Park, Mount Meru is a volcano that rises to an impressive 4565 metres, which makes it Africa's Fifth-Highest peak. Meru was formed by volcanic activity over 15 million years ago, at the same time as the creation of the famous Great Rift Valley.

Happily for visitors, Meru has shown no serious volcanic disturbances for over 100 years. Although it is 70 Kms away from Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru's summit nevertheless allows trekkers to see its higher and better-known cousin - at least on a clear day.

Trekking Meru is usually a 4 day trip, giving ample time to explore the highland rainforest and the Acacia woodland and to admire the abundant flora and wildlife. During your trek, you could reasonably expect to encounter zebra, baboons amongst other species.
