About Mufindi Highlands:

It is one of the four districts of the Iringa Region of Tanzania. It is bordered to the North by Kilolo District and Iringa Urban District, to the South by the Njombe Region, to the East by the Morogoro Region and to the West by the Singida Region.

Cool healthy mountain air, evenings around a log fire, trout fishing, horse riding and stunning scenery are just a few of the reasons for visiting the Mufindi - high up on the Rift Valley escarpment and discovering a different aspect of the African bush. Mufindi is surrounded by pristine tea estates, dark thick montane forest and rugged bushland interlaced with lakes, rivers and streams. Although not on the usual 'tourist' route, Mufindi offers it's own brand of magic. Ideal for relaxing with a good book, or burning off energy there is something for everyone.

When to visit: It is accessible at all times of year. The 'dry' season runs from May until December with short rains from December to February, a short dry spell during February, when the westerly wind changes to an easterly wind) and long rains (light rain) from March to May. The temperature during the winter months of June and July can be quite refreshing especially at night time, so it is advisable to bring some warmer clothing. Frost at night at this time and log fires everyday of the year - An Africa you don't expect.

ACTIVITIES fishing Fly Fishing : An unusual sport to find in Africa, but we have lakes well stocked with Rainbow trout just waiting to be fished. The lodge can supply tackle and also instruction for any first timers. Trout breed in the wild in the cold mountain rivers and streams ensuring survival and sustainability.

Mountain Biking At an average altitude of 2000 m, and with plenty of up and downs, riding in the highlands is no picnic, but if you are keen, the tracks and paths are all yours!

Horse Riding horse ridingThere are endless paths and tracks to explore on horse back with little or no traffic to worry about. The horses are tough and very sure-footed, suitable for any level of rider. A guide will accompany you on your rides, both for safety and to make sure that you don't get lost amongst the tea or forests. An exhilarating experience, or horseback safari is also a fantastic way to view the scenery.

Walking An evening stroll around the lake, or a hike through the villages, tea or forest, the choice is yours.

Bird Watching You probably hear birds every day, but can you tell one bird song from the next? There is a good variety of bird life in and around the area.

Golfing For serious golfers, there is an 18 holes golf course 35 km away at the Mufindi Club - ideal for a few practice holes before dinner, or fun game with the family or a starter for beginners.

Canoeing Enjoy a magical canoe trip around the lake surrounded by rainforest to discover the bird life.
