Basecamp Masai Mara

Basecamp Masai Mara is situated along the Talek River, directly bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The river forms a natural boundary between the camp and the reserve.

The camp can be reached by road as part of a Kenya safari itinerary. Guests arriving by air normally fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to an airstrip in the Masai Mara, followed by a road transfer to the camp. The exact airstrip and transfer arrangements should be confirmed when booking.

The camp has 17 river-view tents, including two family tents and one honeymoon tent.

The tents include an en-suite bathroom, bio-flush toilet, solar-heated shower, private verandah, fan, electricity, complimentary Wi-Fi and an in-room safe.

Yes. The camp has two family tents with separate sleeping wings and a larger private balcony. Families should confirm the preferred bed arrangement and maximum occupancy when booking.

Yes. Families are welcome, and the camp offers family tents and the Young Explorers Club. Activities can be selected according to the children’s ages and interests.

Yes. Meals are served in the communal dining area or outdoors. The camp uses fresh ingredients, including produce grown in its organic vegetable garden.

Special dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice. Guests should advise Easy Travel of allergies, vegetarian preferences or other dietary needs when confirming their booking.

Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the guest tents and communal areas. Due to the camp’s remote location, connection speed and reliability may occasionally vary.

A swimming pool is not listed among the camp’s current facilities. Guests can relax on their private verandahs or in the communal lounge and riverside areas.

Yes. Several tents and shared areas have been designed with accessibility in mind. Tents 10, 14A and 14B are listed as wheelchair accessible, while several other tents have low steps. The reception and Enjoolata Centre are also accessible.

The Masai Mara is known for lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, leopards and many bird species. Wildlife may occasionally be seen from the camp, but sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Guests can visit the Enjoolata Educational Centre, meet Maasai women artisans, explore Talek, visit the local market, attend fireside storytelling and learn about the camp’s community and conservation programmes.

Guests can tour the organic garden and tree nursery, participate in tree planting and learn about recycling, water management, environmental restoration and community-based conservation.

Two or three nights are generally recommended, providing enough time for game drives, wildlife viewing and at least one cultural or conservation experience. A longer stay may be suitable during the Great Migration season.
