Budget Safari Tours Frequently Asked Questions

For more information, check out our FAQs below!
A camping safari is a type of safari where you sleep in Dome tents rather than in lodges or hotels. It is a more affordable option compared to other types of safaris and offers a more authentic experience of being close to nature.
A Budget lodge is a type of accommodation that offers basic amenities and services at an affordable price. Budget lodges are usually located in or near wildlife reserves or national parks, making them a popular choice for safari-goers who want to experience the wilderness without breaking the bank.
There are a lot of factors that go in to estimating a price for a safari in Tanzania, including length, itinerary, time of year, and level of accommodation. While we go into great detail in one of our blog posts, please read how much does it cost to go on a safari to Tanzania, you should budget between $2500 (budget option) and $5000 (luxury option) for a seven-day safari to Tanzania. Our estimation is roughly $3000 as an average price for a week on safari. Please note that this excludes flights to and from Tanzania.
If you are looking for an overall cheaper destination, go with Kenya. Tanzania is definitely affordable, and while we can offer you very reasonable packages, when you compare the two against each other, Kenya is the less expensive option. However, Kenya has much fewer options in terms of safari and only a fraction of the national park space that Tanzania has to offer, as well as less diversity in wildlife. So while Kenya is the cheaper option, Tanzania is the more economical option, as your money gets you a lot more. We also cannot vouch for the quality on offer when it comes to trip organizers in Kenya. We trust our experience and our passion for travelling Tanzania.
Absolutely! While planning a Tanzania safari on a budget may be a little more difficult to do on your own compared to, say, backpacking around Europe, there are still plenty of affordable accommodation options, budget sightseeing choices, and rate reductions based on group size. If you have an idea of what you want for a safari, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of our safari experts for more information.
The cheapest places to visit on a safari are national parks that are close to large city centres. For example, Arusha is very close to Tarangire National Park and Dar Es Salaam is near to Mikumi National Park. When visiting the larger national parks that are further afield and not particularly close to any large cities or towns, it will become more expensive as food and accommodation options become more limited. The best time of year to go on a budget lodge safari depends on the destination and the type of wildlife you want to see. In general, the dry season is the best time for game viewing as animals tend to congregate around water sources. The dry season also coincides with the high season, which means that prices are generally higher. The low season, usually during the rainy season, offers lower prices but may also mean less game viewing due to the vegetation being thicker and animals being more dispersed.
Yes, it is generally safe to go on a camping safari or stay in a budget lodge. However, it is important to follow the instructions of your Easy Travel guide and take appropriate safety measures such as not leaving your tent at night and not approaching wild animals.
The types of animals you can expect to see depend on the location and the time of year. In general, you can expect to see a variety of wildlife such as elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, and many more. However, it is important to remember that wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and patience and luck play a big role in seeing animals.
The main difference between a Budget lodge safari and a luxury lodge safari is the level of comfort and luxury provided. Luxury lodges usually offer more spacious rooms, better amenities, and more personalized services. They also tend to be more expensive compared to budget lodges. The choice between a budget or luxury lodge safari ultimately depends on your budget and preferences.
Yes, Easy Travel offers customizable itineraries for camping safaris or Budget lodge safaris. This allows you to tailor the safari to your preferences and interests. You can add or remove activities, adjust the length of the safari, or choose different accommodations. Consult with your Easy Travel safari consultant to see what customization options are available.
It is important to inform your Easy Travel safari consultant of any dietary restrictions or allergies before booking. Easy Travel safari consultant can accommodate dietary restrictions such as vegetarian or gluten-free diets. However, it is important to communicate clearly with your Easy Travel safari consultant and to bring any necessary food or snacks with you if you have specific dietary needs.
Tipping etiquette on a camping safari or at a Budget lodge safari can vary depending on the country and the culture. In general, it is customary to tip the guide and the staff at the lodge or campsite. The amount of the tip can vary, but is usually around 10% of the total cost of the safari or lodge stay. It is important to check with your Easy Travel safari consultant about tipping guidelines and to bring enough cash to cover tips.
Camping sites on a camping safari vary depending on the program and the specific safari. In general, camping sites provide basic amenities such as tents, sleeping bags, and camping chairs. Some camping sites may have shared bathroom facilities, while others may provide private bathrooms. It is important to check with your Easy Travel safari consultant about what amenities are included at the camping sites.
The type of campsites available on a camping safari can vary depending on the program and the specific safari. Some campsites may be located within national parks or wildlife reserves, while others may be located outside of these areas. Some campsites may have basic amenities such as shared bathrooms and running water, while others may offer more luxurious accommodations such as private bathrooms and hot showers.
Public campsites are usually located within national parks or wildlife reserves and are open to the general public. They may have basic amenities such as shared bathrooms and running water, and are usually more affordable compared to private campsites. Private campsites, on the other hand, are owned and operated by private companies and are often located in more remote or exclusive areas. They may offer more luxurious accommodations and amenities such as private bathrooms and hot showers.
