Marangu is also a small town in the Kilimanjaro region that is well known for its Coca-cola route to Kilimanjaro.
Aside from climbing Kilimanjaro, there are several other exciting activities that you can do in this little town.
Machame houses an incredible selection of attractions, making it worth visiting.
Culture, caves, local food, and great conversation can be made when you visit Marangu.
Marangu is more than just a route approaching Mount Kilimanjaro. It is a town brimming with adventures and colorful traditions.
You can reach Marangu from Kilimanjaro International Airport at approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
From Arusha (ARK), you can take a 30 minutes-flight to Moshi. From there to Marangu, it is approximately 40 minutes.
The answer to this depends on the activity you’d like to take during your visit to Marangu Town.
For instance, if you’d like to climb Kilimanjaro, June to October is your best option since this corresponds to the dry season.
During this time, you don’t have to deal with frequent rain showers and focus on climbing and the incredible views of the mountain.

The Marangu route is one of Kilimanjaro’s easiest and most popular routes. On this route, trekkers have an easy ascent.
The Marangu route is also much cheaper than the other Kilimanjaro routes.

If you’d like to take the route with the highest possible chance of summiting, then the Lemosho and Machame routes are the best.
These routes offer longer days on the mountain (7 to 8 days), making them excellent for acclimatization. Hence, it makes summit night less difficult.
Since Marangu is among the most popular choices due to its ease of climb, you can expect that it is often a busy route that can get crowded.
So, if you dislike being with a large crowd, the Marangu route is not for you.
Often called the Coca-Cola Route, the Marangu route is deemed the easiest way up to Kilimanjaro in terms of gradient and terrain.
It is also the most established route on Kilimanjaro and is the only route that offers hut accommodation to sleep in, making your sleeping situation more comfortable.
The Marangu route has been notably known as the “Coca-Cola” route since you can buy a Coca-Cola at each hut. This route approaches Kili’s summit from the southeast.
Overall, Marangu is a relatively easy route with fewer steps to climb. That said, its acclimatization is mediocre.
Although known as the easiest route to Kilimanjaro’s summit, there are several considerations you have to make before choosing the Marangu route for your Kili climb.
First, this route is meant for climbers that want a shorter trek and don’t like to camp. Second, since this route has shorter trekking days, its acclimatization period is shorter, lowering the success rate.
Due to its shorter trekking days, Marangu is less scenic than other Kili routes. This is usually because you ascend and descend on the same path.
But don’t let this dishearten you from choosing Marangu. Despite being less scenic than the other routes, the scenery you can find here is still good.
Given that Marangu is one of Kilimanjaro’s shortest routes, it’s no wonder it has a relatively poor acclimatization account. Hence, its summit success is low.
Though there are no official statistics to back this up, it’s worth grasping that the average success rate for all Kilimanjaro operators for a five-day tour route is 50%, meaning your chances are not promising.
