Being at altitude, it can be chilly at the Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge, but there’s a wood-burning stove, which staff will light for you on cold evenings. You will also be supplied with hot water bottles to keep you warm!

Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge is set just a few hundred meters back from the rim of the crater. It’s close to the crater entrance.
Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge is a 3-hour drive from Arusha City and around 45 minutes from the farming town of Karatu.
If you are flying, the nearest airstrip is Lake Manyara Airstrip which is 90 minute’s drive from Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge. There are flights from Arusha to Lake Manyara Airstrip daily, with connections to/from both Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.
Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge is conveniently located near the main entrance and the access road down to the crater floor. An early breakfast will allow you to get down to the crater.

An electric heater provides hot water, but please use the hot water sparingly. The supply is limited!
The 2,200 meters of altitude means it can get cold, so each room has a wood-burning stove. There are also hot water bottles. We do advise you to bring warm clothing.
Yes, pack some warm clothing such as warm socks, a lightweight jacket, or fleece. Bringing layers allows you to be flexible.
Breakfast is available between 06.00 and 09.00 hours, earlier on request. You can take a lunch box to enjoy in the crater; these should be requested the night before. Dinner is served between 19.00 and 21.00 hours. Complimentary tea and coffee are always available.
Guests are always advised to drink the jug of filtered water in the room and use the water in the taps only for showers and washing. Use filtered water for cleaning your teeth, too.
Free Wi-fi is available in public areas, but heavy use (streaming, downloads etc) should be avoided.
With advance notice, Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge can cater to most dietary requirements. It’s best to specify at the time of booking. Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge recommends that you also discuss your needs upon arrival.
A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst the lodge staff. Please note that tips must be made in cash; we cannot accept them by credit card. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your checkout.
Payments are accepted in Tanzania shillings, U.S. Dollars, or by Visa or Mastercard. Please bring some spare cash to spend in our curio shop if you would like to buy a souvenir to take home or if you would like to leave a tip for the staff.
This depends entirely on your proposed itinerary while in Tanzania. But you may prefer to take two or more nights at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge to get the best experience of the area and the lodge.
Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge generates its electricity by means of a generator. Please use it sparingly. The generator operates from 05.00 to 08.00 hours and again from 16.00 to 21.00 hours. Please charge your electronic devices during these times. Only a minimal amount of electricity is available after 21.00 hours for essential lighting.
Never walk around the grounds after dark unaccompanied by a staff member. One of our security staff will accompany you to and from the dining room and remain on duty through the night if required.
