Tarangire Simba Lodge is located near the Sangaiwe Gate of the huge Tarangire National Park, one of the gems of Tanzania’s famous Northern Circuit. Visitors to the lodge will delight in the rich wildlife that inhabits this region.
The shimmering waters of Lake Burunge can be seen from here, and an ancient baobab – one of the Tarangire icons – can be found in the corner of the grounds. The thatched accommodations are perfect for a relaxing, rewarding stay.
Tarangire Simba Lodge offers accommodations in sixteen safari tents with canvas walls and a permanent thatched roof. The floors are of wood, and the en-suite houses a toilet and shower. Outside, another shower and a private veranda are looking over the bush toward Lake Burunge.
African hardwood has been carved to create tasteful furnishings, enhanced with patterned fabric and hot water comes via solar power. Tents have a queen-size bed or two twins, and triple configurations are also available. One family tent is equipped with two queen-sized beds.
Food is a real highlight at Tarangire Simba Lodge, continental in style but based on fresh local produce. Bread is baked each day, so always fresh. A huge breakfast buffet includes ‘cooked-to-order’ eggs, bacon, sausage, and porridge.
Lunch is either taken by a lunch box for those out on safari or back at the lodge with favorites such as pizza or quiche, curry and rice, and tasty salads. Buffet dinners include soups and main courses, with vegetarian options available.

Our guests usually arrive via a licensed Tanzanian Tour Operator, meaning that you do not have to worry about driving on the rough Tanzanian roads over huge distances. Arusha, the safari capital, is about 150 kilometers away, driving around 2 hours 40 minutes.
Tarangire Simba Lodge is located only 1 kilometer from the Sangaiwe Gate, which has access to the Tarangire National Park.
The rate at the Tarangire Simba Lodge includes accommodation and breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lunch can be at the lodge or a lunch box to take with you on safari. The rate includes one bottle of water per person in the room (for brushing teeth) and toiletries (soap, shampoo, and body lotion.) You will also receive complimentary coffee/tea and cookies in the afternoon. All other drinks, laundry, and tips are on your account.
Yes, each room at Tarangire Simba Lodge has a safe for your valuables.
Tarangire Simba Lodge is powered by solar, but as the lights may not be as bright as you are used to, we advise you to bring a headtorch to help you read at night. Please note that using a hair dryer at the lodge is not possible. Trying to use one will blow the system resulting in a power outage for the whole lodge.
If you need a CPAP (for sleep apnea), then this must operate on battery power. (There is no 24-hour electricity). Please note that the lodge staff is not experts with these, so you must know how to operate the machine and recharge the battery. Please advise at the time of booking if you use this machine.
A buffet breakfast includes hot drinks, juices, cereals, and fresh fruits. There are also muffins or pancakes with eggs, sausage, and bacon cooked to your order. Porridge (oatmeal) is also available on request.
Most guests will choose a lunchbox to take out on safari. If you stay in the lodge for your lunch, this will be pizza, quiche, salad, etc, or maybe hot meals on colder days.
Dinner can be either a buffet or served to the table, depending on how busy the lodge is. A vegetarian course is always on the buffet; please advise us in advance of any special dietary requests.
You will find our reception area and a separate, comfortable lounge and dining room in the lodge’s communal area. An outdoor deck area provides an opportunity for eating outside. Free Wi-fi is also available in this communal area. Guests can also enjoy the large swimming pool. A viewing platform is great for staring at the stars.
Tarangire Simba Lodge staff will greet your arrival with a welcome drink and refreshing towel. You can enjoy afternoon tea from 15.30 hours. Our fully-stocked bar has a good list of wines from South Africa.
With advance notice, Tarangire Simba Lodge can cater to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets.
Guests can enjoy bird-spotting on the lodge grounds, swimming in the lodge pool, relaxing on the viewing platform, and perhaps spotting some wildlife.
Guests are always advised to drink bottled water at Tarangire Simba Lodge and use the water in the taps for showers and washing. Use bottled water for cleaning your teeth, too.

Yes, the lodge welcomes those traveling in family groups, though children must be six years or older. Any children younger than 13 must share a room with an adult (aged 18 or over). A special child rate applies for children ages 6-17 sharing with an adult.
A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst all lodge staff. We ask you not to tip staff individually unless there has been exceptional service. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your check-out.
Yes, this is available in some public areas. Please do not download large files, as the service is not as strong as you may be used to at home. You can use the computer belonging to the lodge on request.
It is useful to arrive at Tarangire Simba Lodge with sufficient cash to pay for extra drinks and staff gratuities. Banknotes such as 5-dollar, 10, and 20-dollar bills are best. Poor network coverage in the parking area may mean the card machine is not always working. Most of the time, you can use US Dollars in Tanzania, particularly in tourist areas, and major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, lodges, and camps. However, we advise having some local currency on you if you want to purchase from a local shop. Major towns and airports have forex bureaus where you can exchange most major currencies such as US Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, etc.
A limited laundry service is available for guests who stay more than one night. Please hand it to us as soon as you arrive, as everything is air-dried, and we cannot guarantee it will be completely dry on its return, especially between June and September.
