Welcome to Tanzania
Whatever your arrival time at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Easy Travel driver-guide will be waiting for you with a warm welcoming smile. Kick back and relax in your comfortable vehicle as he takes you to your hotel in Arusha, Tanzania’s self-styled ‘safari capital.’ On your one-hour journey to the hotel, you will get a brief impression of this large, bustling, commercial city. Depending on your arrival time, you may have your pre-safari briefing today; if not, it will take place early tomorrow morning.

Tour Briefing
Unless your arrival time yesterday allowed time for your safari briefing, then this will take place after breakfast. We will provide you with all the essential information, before we set off westwards then south to our first safari destination, Tarangire National Park.
Journey: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Our two-hour (120km) journey first takes us westwards from Arusha. Along the route, your eyes will be opened to all the colours and character of Tanzania: perhaps some Maasai herdsmen driving their flocks of goats to new pastures. You’ll get to know your driver-guide, amazed at his depth of knowledge as he effortlessly answers all your questions. On arrival , we will have lunch before embarking on our first game-drive.
Day’s Highlight
Your afternoon game drive in Tarangire, with its incredible diversity, massive baobab trees and herds of elephants.
Safari (Game Drive) in Tarangire National Park
Tarangire is huge. As you stand at the park gate and look south, it stretches as far as the eye can see. Known as the ‘Elephant Playground,’ this phenomenal park contains huge herds of these mighty mammals. But Tarangire is also home to buffalo, lion, wildebeest, zebra and gazelle and the park can rival Serengeti for sheer animal densities. What might you see today? Perhaps a solitary male lion stretched out beneath a tree, perhaps a trio of male cheetah enjoying some lazy bonding-time in the sun. Maybe some graceful Grant’s gazelle or zebra bounding away from the road or a couple of giraffe munching happily from the choicest acacia branches. For Tarangire specialities, look out for kudu and oryx.
Here as in other parks, it pays not to ignore the small animals. It’s so easy to be mesmerized by the power and majesty of an elephant or the elegance of the giraffe. Ask your guide to find you an agama lizard, especially a male one who changes colour in front of you according to the temperature! Or a hyrax, known as pimpi, an insignificant-looking creature of around 30cm in length…who astonishingly is related to elephant!
Not many trees will pass you by without something of avian interest catching your eye. A memorable flash of colour might be a lilac-breasted roller or blue-eared starling. Ostrich are plentiful and it’s hard not to chuckle at the sighting of the well-named, studious-looking secretary bird as it awkwardly pads across the grasslands.
The park is also famous for its splendid baobab trees, rolling savannah and acacia woodland. It can be dusty – wear a scarf over your mouth – but this is a minor inconvenience for sighting wildlife in such abundance.
Nestled along the majestic baobab tree line, Tarangire Kuro Treetops Lodge offers a unique retreat in the heart of Tarangire. The lodge boasts elegantly designed luxury tents, each thoughtfully equipped with plush bedding, en-suite bathrooms featuring both indoor and outdoor showers, and private verandas that showcase breathtaking views of the surrounding wilderness. Guests can also unwind on expansive decks and outdoor lounges, ideal for a peaceful afternoon siesta.
Indulge in the perfect blend of opulence and serenity, where every detail is crafted for comfort and tranquility. Whether savoring the serenity of your private veranda or exploring the diverse and captivating landscapes of Tarangire—including woodlands, savannahs, and riverine habitats—this extraordinary experience promises to be unforgettable. Welcome to Tarangire Kuro Treetops Lodge, your luxurious haven in the wild!
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by Gran Melia Arusha. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also Provided for you to take out on Safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at the Tarangire Kuro Treetops Lodge.
Journey: Tarangire to Lake Manyara
After a morning game-drive in Tarangire, we will travel from there to Lake Manyara, where we will take lunch on arrival, enjoy an afternoon game drive and spend the night. Our travel time today is around 1 ½ hours (75km).
Day’s Highlight
Your afternoon game-drive at Lake Manyara, where we enjoy our wildlife-spotting in the shadow of the Rift Valley Escarpment.
Safari (Game Drive) in Lake Manyara National Park
After our lunch, we jump in our vehicle to cover the highlights of this fascinating park. Set against the rugged Rift Valley escarpment, and characterised by its shimmering lake, Manyara is rich in vegetation and the wildlife that thrives here.
Enjoy the tranquillity as majestic pink flamingos wade elegantly, picking out a meal of algae from the shallow, alkaline waters. On land, Manyara’s terrain is compact, yet boasts differing environments such as diverse forests fed by waters seeping from the nearby escarpment. Monkeys are abundant, but look out too for the lions, giraffe, warthog and grumpy Cape buffalo who all call this park ‘home’. Hold your nose when we reach the hippo pool, because these big lumps smell!
Surrounded by rich gardens inhabited by a myriad of birdlife, Escarpment Luxury Lodge enjoys spectacular vistas over Lake Manyara, as well as views of Mount Meru and even distant Kilimanjaro. There can be few better ways to finish the day than to sit around the campfire and watch the sun go down!
All rooms here benefit from fantastic views of the magnificent surroundings, while inside they are decorated with style and taste and feature all amenities you would expect in a high-quality lodge, including a private balcony. In the main building, guests will find the dining-room, as well as billiards, TV and children’s activity rooms. Before feasting on the excellent cuisine, enjoy a refreshing dip in the lodge pool.
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by the Tarangire Kuro Tree Tops Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at Escarpment Luxury Lodge.
Journey: Lake Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater
We will set off after breakfast, our journey taking us around 1-hour, a distance of around 60 km which leads us from Lake Manyara to the north-west and Ngorongoro.
Day’s Highlight
Today, we will get our first sight of the spectacular, incomparable Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and the heart of the Conservation Area of the same name. Although this is our final destination, we will have wildlife-spotting opportunities on the way.
Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater
We reach the rim and then descend into the vast crater itself. At one side there’s the Lerai Forest, classic mountain forest landscape with almost tropical characteristics. This is good elephant country, so keep your eyes peeled.
By the side of the nearby swampland is what is sometimes called the ‘elephant graveyard’ as the mighty male tuskers at the end of their lives come to chew on the soft, swampland grasses once their teeth have failed them.
The crater has a population of around 120 lions, with well-defined territories; 15,000 wildebeest, 9,000 zebra, 400 hyenas, and around 50 black rhino. Many wildebeest and other herd animals are resident, benefiting from the many sources of year-round waters and are boosted by some migrators in season. Buffalo, Thomson’s gazelle and eland are also present in numbers. Hippos can be found in pools and swampland and highland birdlife is colourful and plentiful around the waters. Flamingos can often be seen in Lake Magadi, which occupies part of the crater floor.
The exclusive Sanctuary Ngorongoro Camp is truly an intimate, luxurious stay near the Ngorongoro Crater, home to black rhinos. Just a short drive to the crater floor, the camp features ten luxury safari tents with en-suite bathrooms, indoor bucket showers, and dedicated attendants.
The camp’s three communal tents include a dining area, lounge, and bar, all with breathtaking views of the lush highlands and majestic trees.
You can kick back with a cool drink from the bar and soak up the camp’s unique atmosphere. The surrounding lands are home to the Maasai peoples, one of Tanzania’s most famous tribes.
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by Escarpment Luxury Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at the Sanctuary Ngorongoro Camp.
Journey: Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, we will journey north-west to reach the central part of the Serengeti, a journey of 145km which will take us around 3 ½ hours. After lunch, we begin to explore this most famous of our national parks with our afternoon game-drive.
Day’s Highlight
Here’s a National Park which will offer you a whole variety of wildlife surprises over the next few days, but perhaps today’s highlight – certainly for first-time visitors – will simply be the Serengeti terrain itself. The sheer vastness, as the plains roll away in front of you into eternity, will leave you with a sense of awe.
Afternoon Game-Drive in Central Serengeti
Serengeti, the incomparable wonder of Tanzania, will be the stage for the natural animal theatrics which will be performed over the next few days. Your game drive here combines the known with the unknown, the certainty that you will be amazed with the uncertainty of exactly what you will see and when.
Changing light, a changing cast of animal actors, ensuring that at every turn there is a new experience. Snap off some memorable photos, but don’t forget to simply take a deep breath and enjoy nature in its real-time, raw beauty.
Nestled in the heart of Central Serengeti, where Tanzania’s iconic wildlife roams freely, the Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge is a luxurious haven for safari enthusiasts. Its prime location provides seamless access to legendary spots such as the Maasai kopjes, Seronera, and the Grumeti River.
The lodge masterfully combines modern African design with authentic charm, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Each spacious tent, perched on raised wooden platforms, boasts en-suite facilities, outdoor showers, and private terraces offering breathtaking views.
Guests can marvel at the Wildlife, sip a drink on their balcony while watching safari unfold, or unwind beneath the starlit sky after an exhilarating day, making Kubu Kubu an ideal base for Serengeti adventures.
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by Sanctuary Ngorongoro Camp. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the camp for you to take out on safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at the Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.
Journey: Central Serengeti to Western Serengeti
After breakfast, and a morning game-drive en-route, we set off to our next destination, the Western Serengeti, a journey of 80km with an expected time of around 2 hour. On arrival, we take lunch and have an afternoon game drive.
Day’s Highlight
Our transition through the Serengeti, from Central to Western, is sure to bring us into close contact with many animal species.
Afternoon Game-Drive in Western Serengeti
Kirawira, Nyasirori, Simiti…the names are hard to say and maybe difficult to remember, but over the next few days these locations in Tanzania’s Western Corridor will bring you wildlife adventures that will fill you with memories. Your driver-guide can choose from a number of ‘loops’ when searching out wildlife opportunities for you: these depart from and reconnect to the main road, visiting different types of vegetation and exploring varied habitats.
Two important rivers cross this region, and the permanent pools created by the Grumeti and Mbalageti ensure that animals can be seen all year-round. Populations of elephant and giraffe, wildebeest, baboons and lions are all resident here, but the Migration time sets a different scene entirely. Huge crocodiles lurk in anticipation of the river crossing, looking to pick off a wildebeest or two as their herds plunge into the waters for the other side. Safety in numbers? Not always, so perhaps you will see not only a crossing, but a kill as well. Patience will bring its rewards – for crocodiles and for you, the visitor, poised with your camera!
Perched atop a scenic hill in the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, Lahia Tented Lodge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the vast savannah, where herds of wildlife roam freely. This elegant tented lodge provides an exceptional blend of comfort and adventure, making it a perfect stopover for those exploring the western region of this iconic park.
The lodge features stylish, well-appointed tents with en suite bathrooms, offering guests a luxurious retreat in the heart of the wilderness. A spacious terrace and inviting swimming pool provide the perfect setting to unwind after an exhilarating day of game viewing. Guests can savor delicious meals at the lodge’s restaurant while taking in the golden hues of the Serengeti sunset, creating a truly unforgettable safari experience.
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at the Lahia Tented Lodge.
Day’s Highlight
With a full day to explore this diverse area, we will be on the lookout for a river crossing. This is wildlife at its rawest!
Morning Game Drive in the Western Serengeti
In Migration times, your driver-guide will do all he can to ensure you witness a crossing. If you didn’t see one yesterday, then today offers another possibility. But the Western Corridor has much more to offer. A favourite amongst our visitors is the collection of hippo pools: as they wallow throughout daylight hours in the mud, this really is wildlife-spotting at its easiest!
A local speciality here is the lowland species of the black and white colobus monkey, different from the ones you may see in other parts of Tanzania. The Mbalageti area also hosts the highest density of topi in Tanzania, so keep your eyes peeled. A rare and treasured sighting would be of an African wild dog; rare, but they are definitely here… somewhere!
Afternoon Game Drive in Western Serengeti
Whether it’s the best place to catch a wildebeest river crossing, the best time to watch a lumbering hippo leave its pool to feast on vegetation for its evening meal, or simply to find the highest vantage point from which to watch the sun set over the plains, your driver-guide will draw on his incredible knowledge and experience to give you wildlife encounters beyond your imagination. This afternoon we will, once again, we will explore this Western Corridor of the Serengeti, admiring its grasslands and bushlands and the itinerant and resident wildlife. Here, ponder that perhaps this is how the world once was, long, long ago, with animals in the ascendant and few humans to be seen. Simply incredible, and thought-provoking, too.
After a full and exciting day of wildlife-spotting in the Western Serengeti, we will return you to your Western Serengeti accommodation for dinner and your second night’s stay.
Meal Plan
Breakfast is enjoyed at the Lahia Tented Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your dinner will be a delicious meal at the Lahia Tented Lodge.
Journey: Western to Central Serengeti
After breakfast, and a morning game-drive en-route, we set off back to our next destination, the Central Serengeti, a journey of 80km with an expected time of around 2 hour. On arrival, we take lunch and have an afternoon game drive.
Day’s Highlight
While you’ve been asleep or having breakfast, you can be sure that your driver-guide has been checking to see what’s happening in the wonderful world of wildlife. Rest assured, he will find you a highlight!
Safari in Central Serengeti
Before leaving the Western Serengeti, we take the opportunity this morning to enjoy another game drive in this incredible location. This allows us further time to wonder at the migratory herds and the dangers and challenges they face each year in their battle for survival.
As well as the herd animals, you can look to the skies, perhaps finding a majestic martial eagle or one of the other birds that populate this area. As well as the thousands of migrating animals, this area also has a good population of resident wildlife, so you will never be disappointed. In the afternoon, we take the short drive to the central part of Serengeti, where after lunch a game-drive will introduce you to this wildlife ‘hub. Finally, you will go to your chosen accommodation for relaxation and your evening meal.
Meal Plan
Breakfast will be provided by Lahia Tented Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your evening meal will be a full, cooked dinner at the Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.
Today, we set off from our accommodation in Central Serengeti. Wildlife is abundant here: sometimes you may think it has come to find you, rather than the other way round. Today’s highlight is unknown, as the animals don’t publish their schedule (!) We will be mindful of the migratory movements, of course, but this area is where bushland meets grassland, so a favorite spot for big cats looking for prey. Cheetah, leopard and lions are all possibilities today.
Safari in Central Serengeti National Park
Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. Sights, sounds and smells of Africa are all around us, and ahead is a full day of adventure in the world’s most famous national park. After breakfast, we start today with the morning section of our game drive in Serengeti National Park, marveling at the stunning scenery, ever changing light and always entertaining wildlife, all explained to you by your expert driver-guide.
The Seronera River weaves its way through this area, providing waters for all species of wildlife. You will also see the distinctive rocky outcrops, the famous kopjes which characterize the Serengeti landscape. Lunch will be an unforgettable experience, enjoyed in the middle of the bush.
After our lunch, we set off again, searching for wildlife in this awe-inspiring park. Serengeti’s wonders evolve subtly as the day progresses. The myriad animals and birds are the ‘stars of the show’ and Nature’s dramas can unfold at any time. Of course, the animals don’t work to a timetable, so we may find lion or leopard, elephant and zebra, cheetah and antelope at any time on our drives. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the camp for dinner and some much-needed rest.
After your day of thrilling game drives, your driver will return you safely for another relaxing night at your Serengeti accommodation (see above). Drink, relax, dine and sleep, all out in the wilderness of the Serengeti. What could be better?
Meal Plan
Breakfast is enjoyed at the Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge. Lunch will be a nutritious and balanced meal, also provided by the lodge for you to take out on safari. Your dinner will be a delicious meal at the Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge.
Note: for those who have booked the Balloon Safari for today, you will be picked up from the lodge at 05.00 hours for a 06.00 hours departure. After your 60 – 90-minute aerial adventure, bush breakfast and champagne, your driver will pick you up for your full-day game drive.
Today on our trip-of-a-lifetime we turn north, driving to the very northern edge of the Serengeti, our world-famous national park and – of course – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Journey: Central to Northern Serengeti
After breakfast, our journey from Central Serengeti to Northern Serengeti will take around 4 hour (120km), with plenty of changing landscapes and wildlife highlights to see along the route.
Day’s Highlight
The changing landscapes of Northern Serengeti and the wildlife surprises it will almost certainly provide. There are no guarantees, but a rhino sighting cannot be ruled out!
Safari in Northern Serengeti National Park
The Northern Serengeti is a land of open woodland, extending from the Seronera in the south to the Mara river in the north, marking the frontier with neighboring Kenya. During your time here, you can get to grips with a whole new set of exotic names: Bolongonja, Kogatende, Lamai and of course, the legendary Mara river.
We are now following in the footsteps of the Great Migration, great herds of thousands of zebra and wildebeest getting ready to cross the Mara into Kenya, and back again. On a daily basis, crossings cannot be guaranteed, but our driver-guides know the most likely places to witness them, one of Nature’s most awe-inspiring sights. Patience is required! And if you’re not lucky enough to witness a crossing, there’s always tomorrow; and in Northern Serengeti, plenty more to see today.
Situated in the Kogatende area of the northern Serengeti, the Mara Mara Tented Lodge features a great swimming pool and a wide terrace looking out over the plains and their passing wildlife. For those visiting this northern part of the magical Serengeti, this lodge provides the perfect stopover.

Day’s Highlight
If you’re lucky today, perhaps a rare, black rhino might cross your path…
Morning Safari (Game Drive) in Northern Serengeti
As you awake for a second day in Northern Serengeti, you can contemplate that parts of this northern area can easily match the Southern Serengeti for the abundance of wildlife viewing. After your breakfast, you will embark with your driver-guide on a full-day game drive, looking out for elephant and buffalo, eland and gazelle. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot something really special: perhaps a cheetah, or even a rare black rhino, of which a small population are resident here.
Afternoon Safari (Game Drive) in Northern Serengeti
Depending on what your driver-guide found for you yesterday and this morning, this afternoon we’ll set out to see something new.
If a Mara River crossing has escaped you, perhaps the conditions this afternoon will suggest that a crossing could take place. Our driver-guides have intimate knowledge of where and when they might occur. As well as the migrating herds, the Northern Serengeti is an area where you might easily see giraffe, elephant and dik-dik: with many resident species, there’s never a dull moment.

We know that the act of giving of a tip can be a bit awkward and we would suggest that the best way to remove this ‘awkwardness’ is for each couple to put their tip anonymously into an envelope and for the envelopes to be presented by the couple to the staff member. As a guideline, you should consider tipping at the following levels:
Driver guide: $25 US per day, per couple.
For hotels/lodges/tented camps, please do not tip individual staff members, but instead use the ‘Tip Box’, which you should find at the reception of your accommodation. For guidance, you should consider tipping between $5-7 US per day, per guest, at each accommodation.
