Mara Mara Tented Lodge

Mara Mara Tented Lodge is situated in the Mara Triangle area, Kogatende, in the northern part of the Serengeti National Park. The famous Mara River is nearby.

Guests can take an internal flight to the Kogatende Airstrip, just a ten-minute drive from Mara Mara Tented Lodge. You can fly here from other airstrips in the Serengeti or Arusha Airport.

If you are driving from Arusha City, the journey will take around 12 hours to Mara Mara Tented Lodge.

Guests can check in from 15.00 hours and must check out by 10.00 hours.

Guests can choose from a suite or family rooms at Mara Mara Tented Lodge.

Guests are always advised to drink bottled water at Mara Mara Tented Lodge and use the water in the taps for showers and washing. Use bottled water for cleaning your teeth, too. This can be bought at the lodge.

This is a wilderness experience, and Mara Mara Tented Lodge is unfenced. Wildlife is free to enter, so it is best to be on the lookout. A staff member can escort you if you have any worries – we advise this – and this is mandatory after dark.

It is useful to arrive at Mara Mara Tented Lodge with sufficient cash to pay for extra drinks and staff gratuities. Credit cards are accepted (only Visa and Mastercard), but cash is required as the system can sometimes go down due to the remote location. Banknotes such as 5-dollar, 10-dollar, and 20-dollar bills are best. British pounds and euros are also accepted. Most of the time, you can use US Dollars in Tanzania, particularly in tourist areas, and major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, lodges, and camps. However, we advise having some local currency on you if you want to purchase from a local shop. Major towns and airports have forex bureaus where you can exchange most major currencies such as US Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, etc.

Guests can arrange (some at extra charge): a balloon safari, sundowner, game drives, and drinks around Mara Mara Tented Lodge’s campfire.

Guests will find beds with a fan, mosquito nets, mineral water, a phone, tea/coffee-making, drinking water, and a desk. Room service is available.

A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst the Mara Mara Tented Lodge staff. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your check-out. Tips are entirely at your discretion, but we cannot accept tips by credit card – only in cash.

This depends entirely on your proposed itinerary while in Tanzania. But you may prefer to take two or more nights at Mara Mara Tented Lodge to get the best experience of the area and the tented lodge.
