Ruaha National Park is the largest National Park in East Africa and a hidden gem in safari circles. Not only is it home to more than 10,000 elephants, but it’s rare to spot other safari game-viewing vehicles, so prevalent in other National Parks.
Ruaha National Park is situated to the west of the town of Iringa in south-central Tanzania. The park varies in elevation from 2,500 to 5,200 feet (or 760 to 1,580 meters) and stretches over 5,000 square miles (12,950 square km).
The best way to access the Ruaha National Park is by air, flying into one of two airstrips. These are Msembe, by the park’s HQ, and the other is Jongomero. Coastal Aviation is a company that offers daily flights from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Selous, Serengeti, and Zanzibar.
The Ruaha National Park is one of the largest National Parks in East Africa. With great diversity and hundreds of species, it is also home to over 10,000 elephants. Predators are also very common here, and the elusive wild dogs can also be spotted with some luck. Happily, human visitors are comparatively rare in Ruaha!
The tap water at Asanja Ruaha is only recommended for washing and cleaning. Bottled mineral water should be used for drinking and brushing teeth.
