Bougainvillea Safari Lodge

The first option for guests is to fly into either Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport, stay overnight in Arusha City, and then be driven 165 kilometers or 2 hours 40 minutes to the lodge.

Alternatively, guests can take an internal flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport to the Lake Manyara Airstrip, which is only a 30-minute drive from the airstrip to the lodge.

As the lodge is not located inside the park, there is no wildlife immediately around the lodge. However, there are plenty of colorful birds to enjoy and many trees and other flora.

Our rooms are available on a single, double or twin, triple, interconnecting, or quadruple basis. 

Check-in is from 13.00 hours, and check-out is by 10.00 hours. 

Yes, two cottages are usable as family suites with interconnecting rooms. 

Free wi-fi is available in the rooms and the main public area.

The following activities can be arranged at an extra charge: hiking, wildlife-viewing, birdwatching, massage, cultural tours/activities, and swimming. 

Guest rooms include the following: 

Room amenities include a spacious en suite bathroom with shower, fireplace, wi-fi, verandah, dressing area, room service, and beds with mosquito nets. 

Guests are always advised to drink bottled water at the lodge and use the water in the taps for showers and washing. Use bottled water for cleaning your teeth, too.

At an extra cost, laundry service is available at the lodge. This service best suits those staying more than one night to allow the clothes to dry quickly.

Yes, with advance notice, we can cater to most dietary requirements. Bougainvillea Safari Lodge can cater to these, and we recommend that you stress your needs on arrival at the lodge. 

A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst the lodge staff. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your check-out.

Yes, the Bougainvillea Safari Lodge does provide hot water for showers. 

It is useful to arrive at the lodge with sufficient cash to pay for extra drinks and staff gratuities. Banknotes such as 5-dollar, 10-dollar, and 20-dollar bills are best. Poor network coverage in the park may mean the card machine is not always working. Most of the time, you can use US Dollars in Tanzania, particularly in tourist areas, and major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, lodges, and camps. However, we advise having some local currency on you if you want to purchase from a local shop. Major towns and airports have forex bureaus where you can exchange most major currencies such as US Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, etc. 

Our location means you can easily walk into Karatu town and experience and enjoy the hustle and bustle of a traditional Tanzanian community with its shops and market stalls. If you want to visit the incredible Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its amazing crater or perhaps explore a nearby coffee plantation, a member of our staff will be happy to accompany you.

Tanzania is a country of many, many tribes, each with fascinating traditions and culture. We can arrange for you to visit some of them, such as the Iraqw, Hadzabe, or Datogo people, to discover their way of life. There is also the chance to explore the village of Mto Wa Mbo, which is also close by.

Of course! Both the stunning World Heritage site of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the rich Lake Manyara National Park, a jewel of a park, are located nearby and thus suitable for day trips. Excursions you will never forget!
