Lake Natron Camp

The Lake Natron Camp occupies a unique position, surrounded by the active Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano to the south, the Rift Valley escarpment to the west, the shimmering Lake Natron and its million flamingoes to the north, and the peaks of Mount Gelai to the east. It sits at 2000 feet (600 meters) above sea level in the Great Rift Valley.

All guests arrive here by road. Starting from Arusha, our ‘safari capital, you will travel via the large village of Mto wa Mbu (5 to 6 hours journey time) or via Longido (3 hours journey time.) Variable weather and the road surface state will dictate the exact time taken.

You can arrange the following, some at extra charge: Birdwatching and walking to see flamingoes, a Great Rift Valley hike, mountain biking, a hike to see ancient Hominid footprints, a Maasai massage, natural spring-fed pool, Maasai barbecue, Ngare Sero village visit, Ngare Sero source adventure hike, waterfall walk, Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano hike, Maji motto (hot water).

The camp is wheelchair-accessible. For specific inquiries, we recommend you contact us in advance to discuss.

The camp has 360-degree panoramic views of volcanoes, lakes, mountains, and valleys!

Generally, pets are welcomed to the camp. But we would advise you to contact us to discuss this.

Guests can choose single, double, or twin-configured tents.

Each tent has a bedroom with en suite bathroom (shower and eco-toilet), king-size bed (or two singles, on request), safe, carpeted floor, bedside fan, desk with chair, mosquito nets, and toiletries.

A laundry service is available at extra cost. Return time depends on the weather, as items are washed by hand and hand-dried.

The mess tent has charging points for your appliances (cameras, phones, etc.) Please note that there are no charging points in the guest tents.

Guests are always advised to drink bottled water at the camp and use the water in the taps for showers and washing. Use bottled water for cleaning your teeth, too.

Yes, with advance notice, we can cater to most dietary requirements. Lake Natron Camp will be able to cater to these, and we recommend that you stress your needs on arrival at the camp.

A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst the camp staff. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your checkout.

Yes, the tents have mosquito nets. We advise you also to bring your mosquito repellent.

Yes, the Lake Natron Camp provides hot water for showers.

It is useful to arrive at the camp with sufficient cash to pay for extra drinks and staff gratuities. Banknotes such as 5-dollar, 10-dollar, and 20-dollar bills are best. Poor network coverage in the park may mean the card machine is not always working. Most of the time, you can use US Dollars in Tanzania, particularly in tourist areas, and major credit cards are accepted at most hotels, lodges, and camps. However, we advise having some local currency on you if you want to purchase from a local shop. Major towns and airports have forex bureaus where you can exchange most major currencies such as US Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, etc.
