Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge

The Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is located about 2km off the mainland on a private island. It is on a narrow spit of land that forms a lagoon just south of Bagamoyo town. The spit, and several of the lagoon islands, are inhabited by mangrove forests. The roots are visible at low tide.

The mainland is populated by small fishing villages, where the fishermen take their little boats (ngalawas) out into the Indian Ocean. Later, they stop by to sell their catch to the lodge.

Guests can check into the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge from midday and must check out by 10.00 hours.

The Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge guests can choose between double or twin rooms. 

A laundry service is free of charge, subject to weather conditions. Laundry is collected in the morning when your room is being cleaned and will be returned the same evening.

The Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge rooms have a balcony, a porch, a safe room, mosquito nets, and free bottled water. Each has direct beach access.

Yes, children of all ages are welcome at the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge. With advance notice, we can arrange a special children’s menu – and earlier eating times, if required.

Yes, guests at the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge can get active with sailing, swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling, some at extra charge.

Tap water at the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is only recommended for washing and cleaning. Bottled mineral water should be used for drinking and brushing teeth. Water is scarce, and we would appreciate you treating it accordingly. Solar power provides hot water and may not always be available, depending on the weather.

Guests at the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge can learn about the history of Bagamoyo, explore and discover the wildlife of the mangroves, and explore the island itself. 

Yes, the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is a safe place to stay, with a round-the-clock security guard. Guests should be aware at all times, as there are monkeys which are wild animals that can bite. Please do not feed them! If they enter your room, do call a staff member. 

Yes, there is Wi-Fi in the main building at the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge, but not in the rooms. 

Staying at Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge for two nights or more will allow you to get to know the island better. 

You will be asked to sign for any drinks each evening, and payment is taken on the day of your departure. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, but note that there is a 5% bank charge. We accept Tanzanian Shillings, US Dollars, Euros, or GBP for cash payments. 

All drinks on the island must be purchased at the bar of the Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge. 

The Lazy Lagoon Island Lodge is not on the grid, so power comes via generators, which operate only during certain hours: 09.00—13:00 hours and 18.00—22.30 hours.
