If traveling from Arusha by road, the journey to the lodge is 280 Kilometers or 7 hour’s drive. If you wish to reduce the time spent on the road, you can take a scheduled internal flight from Arusha Airport between December and April. Between May and November, a charter plane can be organized, but only with a minimum of 2 passengers. Ndutu Airstrip is 2 km from the lodge.
The lodge accommodations are housed in cottages, each of which has a feeling of being ‘out in the wilderness.’ Guests can sit on their private veranda and enjoy the rich vegetation of the lodge grounds. There are no fences here – so you might have some animal visitors!
You can enjoy the central dining area and bar, a great place to swap some safari tales with others.
The Ndutu Safari Lodge consists of 34 cottages facing toward the lake. Each has a private veranda. There are three rooms for Safari Tour Leaders and one cottage with two separate bedrooms (1 double, one twin), a living room, a dining area, and two private verandas. (Note: as this is remote, it is not family-friendly).
Guests can choose from single, double/twin, triple, and quadruple rooms.
Our expert chefs create sumptuous breakfasts, delicious lunches, and at the end of the day, welcome four-course dinners.
The well-stocked bar can tempt you with a cocktail before you eat. The dining area and bar are the focal points of the lodge, a wonderful place to meet and relax. But if you want to spend some time each evening by the campfire, you can enjoy the sundown as the stars emerge above.
No, but these can be provided by room service. Tea and coffee are also available on a complimentary basis all day in the lounge.
The lodge offers a full laundry service at an extra cost. (Guests staying on the ‘Full Inclusive Supplement’ basis) do not pay extra for the laundry service).
Please note that laundry is washed by hand. The timing of the return of your laundry will depend on the weather.
Power is supplied to the lodge by a generator, which operates between 05.30 and 16.00 hours and again between 18.00 and 23.30 hours. During the night hours, when the generator is off, guests can use an eco-friendly portable light, solar-powered.
Each room has a charging point and additional points in the bar area. Tanzania operates on a voltage of 220 volts, and plugs are ‘Type G’ British-style 3-pin (Type G).
No, we would ask you not to, as this stresses the power system! Ask the reception for one of their travel-size hairdryers.
As there is no running water at the lodge, much water has to be brought in from outside. Additionally, the lodge collects rainfall, purifies/filters it, and converts it into kitchen drinking water. Water for use in the bathrooms is collected from nearby wells. This water is not suitable for drinking, as it has a high soda content.
The lodge is committed to recycling as much as possible, for example, glass, paper, metals, etc.
Guests can enjoy sitting around the campfire each evening, enjoying a drink and some complimentary snacks to accompany the sun setting.
There is Wi-fi access available only in the bar and lounge areas. Please note that there are some restrictions on your usage, for example downloading large files or backing up photos on Cloud. Wi-fi is available only between 05.45 and 22.00 hours. Guests are asked to be courteous towards others when communicating via phone, Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp, etc.
Guests can check in from 11.00 hours and must check out by 10.30. (Subject to availability, you can reserve a day room at 50% of the daily room rate.
Tipping is entirely discretionary. Please use the communal tipping box at reception if you wish to leave a tip for the lodge staff. Any money received will then be divided equally amongst all the lodge staff.
The lodge accepts cash in TZS (Tanzanian Shillings), USD, or EUR. We accept most major credit cards and use 3Gdirectpay for payments. The surcharge for credit card service is 5%.
Guests may deposit any valuables at the reception for safekeeping.
As the lodge is unfenced, the wildlife can wander into the lodge grounds anytime and at night. For safety, guests are asked not to wander outside the lodge grounds. In the evening and through the hours of darkness, security guards operate to accompany guests to and from their rooms.
