For trips outside the hotel, it is advisable to have some Tanzanian shillings and some US Dollars in cash. Note that there is no bank within a 45-minute drive of the Resort. You can exchange at the hotel, but the rates are significantly lower. There is a “no cash” policy within the hotel and its outlets. The procedure is to sign off bills to your room account and settle the account on the evening before departure in cash or by credit card. Credit card payments (Visa or Mastercard are accepted) are processed in US Dollars. Still, unlike other establishments, Ocean Paradise Resort and Spa Zanzibar does not charge transaction fees to pay accounts at the front desk via credit card. Any excursions booked via our desk can also be settled in this way. There is no need to carry cash around while in the Resort. Note that all US Dollar notes must be issued from 2009 onwards. Notes issued before that date are not accepted at any establishment in Tanzania, nor will they be exchangeable at any bank.
