The Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is 137 kilometers from Arusha, a journey of around 2 hours and 30 minutes by road. The alternative route is to take an internal flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro Airports, which is only a 60-minute flight and a 40-minute drive from the airstrip to the lodge.

Our security staff member will escort you to and from your tents.

From the lodge, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Ngorongoro forest, the cultivated, terraced fields tended by the farmers and the nearby villages.

Thankfully, due to our high altitude, there are no mosquitoes at the lodge.

Of course, our guests are very welcome to visit our farm, bakery, and the Children’s Home during their stay.

We have installed solar power, which powers our lodge, bakery, and the Children’s Home. We have also concentrated our resourcing on herb and vegetable gardens and dairy products. We have also built a greenhouse, installed an irrigation system, and erected beehives.

The activities available at Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge are: cultural walk, hiking, visit to the Children’s Home – including special activities for families, school visits, board games, and swimming.

Yes, we offer family rooms for family bookings. A 50% discount is offered to the 3rd, 4th and 5th guests staying in the triple or family units.

Our lodge is perfect for honeymooners, with a honeymoon room that offers both privacy and stunning views. Other special arrangements include a bouquet, a special breakfast location, private romantic lunch or dinner poolside or beneath the trees.

Lodge staff speaks English, German, Italian, Russian, and Dutch.

Of course, your guide may enjoy his meals with guests.

You can book twin/double, triple, family, or honeymoon rooms at our lodge.

The tented rooms provide the following: king-sized or twin beds, en-suite bathroom, flush toilet, mosquito net, balcony, outdoor furniture, inside seating area, and hot water bottle (in cold weather).

Wi-fi is available in the dining area and main public area.

A local guide will teach you about the fascinating local plants, and you will learn about the daily lives of friendly local farmers.

Any hike will be accompanied by a professional guide/ranger, who will lead you through the lush forests in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You can choose from a full day’s hike or just a short walk.

If you stay at the lodge, 20% of the accommodation fees are invested in the Children’s Home. In addition, you can enquire about volunteering or doing an internship with us. You are also welcome to donate.

Profits from the tented lodge go to help the local children, both at the home and two schools.

Of course, visiting the Children’s Home is a popular excursion, as is a visit to the farm, the vegetable gardens, the bakery, or the two schools nearby.
