Serengeti Simba Lodge is on the route of the Great Migration and a seven Kilometer or 20-minute drive from the Ikoma Gate that accesses the Serengeti National Park. It is in what is known as the Ikoma Wildlife Management Area, just outside the national park. The gate is about an hour’s drive from the Central Seronera area of Serengeti.
The migrating herds pass the Serengeti Simba Lodge twice a year, first around June-July and then again in October. Millions of wildebeest and zebra are involved in this incredible natural spectacle.
Serengeti Simba Lodge cannot accommodate guests with mobility issues, as some paths are rough and steep, and there are quite a few stairs in the communal areas. Fit, elderly guests usually manage fine, but Serengeti Simba Lodge is not suitable for the very old or infirm.
Serengeti Simba Lodge rooms are all solar-powered, providing limited round-the-clock electricity, so there are lights for 24 hours. It’s low lighting, but it’s sufficient. If you wish to charge devices in your room, this should be done when the generator is on, namely during 3 hours in the morning and 3-4 hours in the evening. There is a charging station at reception, which can be used at any time.
There is a seating area, mosquito nets, and a desk at Serengeti Simba Lodge.
The rate includes accommodation and three daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Lunch can be provided at Serengeti Simba Lodge or as a lunch box to take out on safari. There is also a complimentary bottle of water in the room and toiletries. Free coffee, tea, and cookies are provided between 15.30 and 18.00 daily. Any other drinks, laundry, and tips are on your account.
The toilets are ceramic flush toilets, similar to those found in Europe or North America.
Although Serengeti Simba Lodge sometimes offers Tanzanian cuisine, generally, the food is continental in style. Fresh, local produce is used wherever possible. Meals are mostly served buffet-style. At breakfast, eggs are cooked to order.
Yes, you can obtain a Wi-fi connection in communal areas (such as the reception, lounge, bar, and dining room). You can ask reception to use the lodge computer to check your emails. Please do not download large files, as the internet is not as robust as you might find at home!
Guests are always advised to drink bottled water at Serengeti Simba Lodge and use the water in the taps for showers and washing. Use bottled water for cleaning your teeth, too. This can be bought at the lodge.
A ‘tipping box’ is available if you want to give a gratuity and any tips received are then shared amongst the Serengeti Simba Lodge staff. We advise that you make your contribution at the time of your checkout. Tips are entirely at your discretion, but we cannot accept tips by credit card – only in cash.
Yes, Serengeti Simba Lodge accepts Visa and Mastercard only to pay for any incidentals purchased at the lodge. However, you should also have enough cash to pay for your purchases because the credit card systems sometimes go “down” due to poor Wi-fi. US Dollars are best in small denomination notes (bills).
Yes, Serengeti Simba Lodge accepts all children aged six years and older. Please note that the lodge requires an adult (18 or over) to be in a room with any child under 13. A special child rate applies to any child aged 6-17 sharing with an adult.
