Secluded inside the rich Gongo forest, to the southwest of the Saadani National Park, you’ll find the Miseni Retreat. Eco-friendly, it is located beside East Africa’s only coastal National Park.
The missions of the retreat are to help develop the local economy while also helping preserve the lush forests of the Zaraninge and Gongo forests. Miseni Retreat consists of a campsite area and an eco-lodge.
Accommodation at the Miseni Retreat consists of five double bedrooms, two family rooms, and one dormitory spread across the two large wooden houses of the retreat.
Each room at Miseni Retreat offers a wooden wash hand basin and a water bowl. Showers are shared, while toilets are of the dry, compost style. These are housed separately in a solar-powered unit. If you choose a family room, these can accommodate three people or a family of four (if the two children are under 12). Additionally, there are five safari tents, perfect for groups.
At the Miseni Retreat, the Mkwaju Restaurant and Bar is an atmospheric venue where guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner while marveling at the wonderful sunsets and forest views.
You can refresh yourself at Miseni Retreat from the bar and lounge with a cool drink or delicious juice. Perhaps you might be visited by some of the locals: the Colobus or blue monkeys from the neighboring forest!
